So, what is this ArtSpin thing?
ArtSpin is a way for art lovers to discover exciting new art via their iPad and connect directly with the artists who make it. ArtSpin was created with one goal in mind—to showcase great art. We want to ensure that a global audience of tech-savvy art lovers are introduced to art they never would have seen otherwise.
We created the new ArtSpin with a very clear business strategy and goal in mind.
Work with your passion. Ours is art, and especially so paintings. Art makes us feel joyful and childlike. There is nothing at all more thrilling or simply wonderful for us than to look at art, and to talk to the artists who create it.
What's the problem we've identified? It is impossible to visit all of the galleries and shows and exhibitions we would like to. It is impossible for anyone to discover all of the great art that would move them to tears and awe them. The time and distances and happenstance involved are too overwhelming. This problem exists for the vast majority of art lovers; people who can afford, and love, to buy works in the $2,000-$20,000 range and really like meeting with an engaging the artists, but find it nearly impossible to visit even a handful of galleries regularly to see great art. And it is impossible to visit every gallery and exhibition outside your own community and stumble across those lovely works and thoughtful and talented artists that might really deeply move you.
Pretend you live in Toronto and enthusiastically visit the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition or The Artist Project or your favourite gallery along Queen Street. You utterly love to look at, and window shop, and buy affordable, great art. Now think about how much great art you're missing because you can't go to the The Armory Show in NYC, or the shows and galleries and exhibitions and studios in Montreal and Cleveland and Chicago, to say nothing of Miami, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Berlin or London?
Our solution? What if these people, who tend to love discovering art (to buy, or share or even simply look at it), could have a way to find dozens and dozens of more artists they adore? And will buy from? And will give feedback to and talk to their friends about? That's what ArtSpin will do. That's the need it solves. Bring a gallery of new art and artists to the attention of art fans everywhere, on semi-monthly to quarterly quarterly basis. There are 65,000,000 iPads out there and that is a vast, potential audience of art lovers. These people have above average incomes, love technology, love art, and enjoy discovery.
The goal. To allow artists a venue in which they can share their best work with potential art lovers and buyers around the world. To provide iPad-owning art lovers the opportunity to discover art and artists they would have never otherwise come across. To provide a feedback mechanism for art lovers. To facilitate artists meeting art lovers.
It's disruptive. It's meant to be. There are only a handful of print publications that visually showcase artists without (much) editorial content but ArtSpin is cheaper, far more widely available, is "good enough", doesn't charge the artists anything (e.g., jury or placement fees), using technology owned by an affluent audience, and provides much simpler and more immediate feedback mechanisms for us and the artists. Enjoy our vision of ArtSpin.
